Deze prachtige tekenfilm gaat over een legendarisch oud-Engels verhaal over een Scandinavische held die bekend staat als drakendoder

Onze opinie:
Beowulf is de nieuwste incarnatie op film van de legende van Beowulf en Grendel. Deze keer krijgen we geen echte live action film met echte acteurs maar Robert Zemeckis heeft een animatiefilm gemaakt met Motion Capture technologie die de film een andere dimensie zou moeten geven. Als geanimeerde film is deze zeker niet slecht maar als gewone “film” is er een te hoog “Shrek”-gehalte op gebied van beweging en emoties bij de personages. Het is duidelijk dat motion capture echte acteurs niet kan vervangen (ondanks dat ze nog steeds gebruikt worden) en ook al zijn er sommige speciale effecten die niet mogelijk zouden zijn in een gewone film had het waarschijnlijk beter geweest een duidelijk keuze te maken: mensen of animatie. Nu krijgen we een mix van beide en het eindresultaat stelt toch wel wat teleur. Als animatiefilm is Beowulf toch wel redelijk leuk met spectaculaire actie waarvan je kan genieten.
