Big Nothing

Charlie heeft een boek geschreven maar er is nogal weinig interesse voor dus probeert hij maar een job te vinden. Hij wordt geteisterd door een ziekte die langzaam zijn geheugen aantast maar hij wil absoluut “werken” voor zijn vrouw, Sheriff Penelope Wood. Nadat zijn eerste dag bij een lokale helpdesk een totale ramp wordt doet zijn collega Gus hem een aanbod: de twee kunnen een ton aan geld verdienen door een lokale priester af te persen die al geruime tijd naar porno aan het surfen is. Gus, via zijn job bij de helpdesk, heeft zijn handen gekregen op logs van het surfgedrag van de priester en het lijkt makkelijk verdiend. Althans, dat is wat de twee dachten…

Onze opinie:
Big Nothing is een zwarte komedie in de stijl van Shaun of the Dead en Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. Alles dat kan foutlopen zal fout lopen is de duidelijke boodschap maar loopt de film zelf fout? Wel, dat is gelukkig niet het geval. De cast doet zijn job goed (we houden van Simon Pegg) en de absurde plotwendingen zijn eveneens goed gevonden. De film zal nooit zo memorabel worden als Shaun of the Dead omdat hij niet zo origineel is maar al bij al zijn er meer dan genoeg grappen aanwezig om een leuke ervaring te bezorgen.

The plan is to blackmail Reverend Smalls, a man of the cloth, who's frequently turned up in the company database of visitors to illegal porn sites. Gus plans to extort Reverend Smalls, with the intention of publicly exposing his secret shame should he refuse, thus potentially destroying the man's career. Normally cautious, Charlie is keen on participating in this scam, confident that the money he'll make from the scam will finally help turn things around for him and his family. Joined by one-time teenage pageant queen Josie McBroom, Gus's ex, the plan goes ahead, but it all goes wrong as Reverend Smalls dies thanks to this trio, with this only being the start of their troubles. —????
